Alec Snyder is a legislative reporter at POLITICO Pro, where, since April 2022, he analyzes bills in Congress, focusing his coverage on the technology, cyber, health care, legal affairs, energy, transportation, agriculture, sustainability, cannabis and, previously, defense, education and financial services sectors and related policy.

 

Alec also authors POLITICO Pro's Day Ahead newsletter, which previews the most prominent policy and legislative events of the day on Capitol Hill and is among the newsroom's top five newsletters in terms of the number of subscribers, open rate and engagement metrics.

 

Alec gained his Congress footing at CQ Roll Call, where he covered congressional committees, hearings and markups and profiled members of Congress. Before that, he worked at CNN on its Voting Rights Team and its Newsgathering unit in New York City, where he reported, wrote and aggregated for CNN.com content and and produced news packages, live shots and broadcast scripts.

Originally from the Philadelphia area, Alec attended The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and mass communication with a minor in theatre.

While a student, Alec interned with the CBS Evening News and in the investigative units at CBS News and WJLA-TV, all in Washington, D.C. He also wrote for MediaFile's politics and business sections and reported on-air for GW-TV.

Alec has experience in broadcast and digital journalism, at national, local and trade publications and at companies in network, cable, syndicated and local newsrooms.
